I think this is my favourite. The technique here is the same as the first bars of Liszt's Grande Etude no 8 which would later be simplified into Wilde Jagd from the transcendental etudes. This technique was the main idea of the etude before Liszt removed almost all references to it, replacing it with martellato octaves and rhythmically regular arpeggios in Wilde Jagd. It is clearly the pinnacle of the capabilities of the 19th century "Finger Technique" school, and yet it's one of the silliest, most fun etudes - like kids tv music. The simple five finger melody is the only one possible using this exact technique, where every finger must be able to articulate the melody even as all the other fingers ripple past from one end of the hand to the other - the fingering is just repeated 54321 54321 but split into accented groups of 4 this five note pattern (arguably creating a polymeter) creates an upward scale moving in the opposite direction to the main movement the hand is doing. 54321ONE 543TWO1 54THREE21 5FOUR321 etc. Forearm rotation will be of little use here because the melody notes come at all points during each rotation, not coinciding with the change in direction - it must be done with the finger! So clever, so difficult, so silly little chromatic boogie woogie bass lines. Lol!

Czerny's etudes (all of them) are extremely useful - but most are not (melodically) original or inventive; I just love every example where his etudes defy this "rule" and actually are of higher melodic worth (nos. 8 and 9 of this Op., for instance, are quite satisfying for my taste).

Carl Czerny wrote over 1000! compositions, that's crazy. How was this even possible? This here is just opus 822 😮 (almost 3 hours long with part 2). Carl Czerny did nothing except composing everyday for sure. Probably there is no other person on earth who heard all of his compositions. The worst "composer" that ever lived

Is there, have you found an English edition of this title "Carl Czerny - COMPLETE THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL PIANO FORTE SCHOOL, OP. 500" (3 volumes) that is printed in such a way that it is readable?!!! It seems that all the English editions use a scan of a very old version of this book and, as a result, the printed edition is sometimes very hard to read? Thanks for any feedback on this matter on which publisher provides the best English edition for this title? Perhaps provide the ISBN-13 number. Thanks. Is Czerny at last coming into his own?

Yes, interesting. Czerny wrote this etude in sonata form. Of course, the thematic material underlying the etude does not imply true development in the development part, however, in the form of this piece there is everything: both the main and secondary parts in a tonic-dominant relationship in the exposition, and with the tonal subordination of the secondary part to the main one in the reprise, and, albeit somewhat nominal, but the development, and even the code at the end, that is, all the canons of shaping are observed. A sort of joke in relation to such a serious form as the sonata. There is no need to talk about pianistic complexity. The right hand should just fall off after this.
